Lord Coutanche Library

British Newspaper Archive

The British Newspaper Archive is now available in the Library. Easily searchable, it offers full-text access to the articles, advertisements and family notices in millions of pages of newspapers. It includes the Jersey Independent and Daily Telegraph (1855-1862). Come in and try it out!

The example below is from the Stamford Mercury, Dec. 17th, 1721. There are many other shipping and trading references to Jersey and the Channel Islands in British newspapers which predate the press in Jersey.
