Following a review and decision by the Société Jersiaise Executive Committee, a chargeable reader’s ticket scheme is being introduced for the Lord Coutanche Library. It will mean that visitors to the Library who are not Société members or members of affiliated organisations, will need to buy a reader’s ticket in order to use the Library.

From Monday, 7th June 2010 the Library will be open to MEMBERS ONLY from 10 am to 2 pm (closed afternoons) as a temporary measure until the appointment of a Librarian.

The Lord Coutanche Library has continued to welcome a steady flow of visitors with a wide ranging interest in local history. It is the sheer variety of different enquiries that make us constantly aware of the diverse nature of the library collections, there is always something new to discover or even sometimes re-discover.

The Library continues to be a hive of activity, Genealogy enquiries both made in person and via e-mail dominate the scene with researchers recently visiting from New Zealand and Australia and others from closer to home.

The last few months have been busy with family history enquiries from all over the world. Our visitors said how hospitable and helpful they have found folk in the island overall. One of our "happy customers" was a Mr John Cabot of Massachussets who has been visiting Jersey over the last 12 years researching the Cabot family.
