Most members have a special interest which they study, but it is not necessary to have one in order to join. Research topics can be on any subject, such as the life of a particular person, the history of a house or street (your own?), education, trades, associations and so on. The list is endless. Members report on their latest findings, including even the smallest item which may be of use to others, and these are discussed. Pictures or objects are often brought and attempts made to identify them.
A group of section members keep a photographic record of buildings due for demolition or major reconstruction and the Island Planning & Environment Committee is contacted if an application for change seems to threaten its importance.
